Library and Information Services Technology Classes & Workshops

All classes listed below are held in the LIS Professional Development Lab (unless noted) which is located in the second floor of South College in rooms 212/214. This classroom has PC computers. Classes are open to students, faculty and support staff unless noted. Instructions to register in CLIQ here.
When attending a class, please be sure you know your network password to log onto the computer. If you do not know your network password call the helpdesk x 1000 before class to get your password working correctly.

Introduction to Dickinson's Network, Printers, Emails, Gateway Workshop

June 11th - 2pm till 4pm
July 24th - 2pm till 4pm
September 4th - 2pm till 4pm

(these are scheduled every 6-8 weeks)

This workshop is perfect for new employees! A great refresher class for all employees too!
In this workshop we will get into the Network on campus & find your department & personal folders. Outlook for reading your emails has many features & I will show you the 10 best tips. Logging into the Gateway, check where the Moodle, NetFiles, CLIQ & Email icons are. Learn how to customize the tabs and content blocks to suit your needs. Emails can also be read by all employees using Outlook web access from anywhere using a browser & we will check it out in class. Passwords, Password Self-Serve, Quotas, Lynda Training Videos, Printers and more will be covered. Bring any questions!

Microsoft Excel 2010 - Top 10 Most Used Functions

May 9th - 2pm till 4pm
 
This is a great workshop to learn the Top 10 Most Used Features of Excel 2010. Simple Formulas, Quick Charts, Freeze Top Row, Split Screen, Sort vs Filters, Hide/Unhide - Rows, Columns & Worksheets, Printing Options, Merge & Center and Fill Command. Throughout the class I will share my favorite shortcuts too. This is a great refresher workshop to attend.

Microsoft Power Point 2010 - Let's Make a Great Presentation

June 12th - 2pm till 4pm
 
Let's make a basic presentation from a template, add slides, text, images details to it in this workshop. Notes are added for you as the presenter for each slide so that you can stay on track with your details to be covered too. Once we have finished the presentation learn how to print Handouts for the audience to suit your needs.

Mac vs Pc Computer Functions & Features Using Both

July 31st - 10am till 11:30am
 
Come to this workshop to experience both Mac and PC computers. This lab, like many labs on campus, has computers that will boot up either using Windows or Mac operating systems. In this workshop we will cover how to open the computer to either type, mac or pc. Learn how to navigate to folders and files, finding and using various programs, using the task bar and dock, minimize, maximize, how to navigate to the network, what keys to use with a mac keyboard, how to remove a jump drive and CD, rename files, learn of all of these and more. Bring any questions or email me ahead of time to add your questions to this workshop session.

  • Make your course Available & How to find Help using Moodle Docs

Want to learn how programs work while sitting in your office computer with training video's? How about Microsoft Word or Excel, Adobe Acrobat Pro, iTunes or iPad to name a few. Mac or PC computers too. Check out Lynda.com to preview free example videos. Click here for PC's Excel 2010 & here for Mac's Word 2011. The links in blue are free video's to view.

Dickinson College employees, if interested can get an account for 14 days at a time and view these videos! Once your account is created you can take turns using Lynda throughout the year. If you complete a section you can then get a personalize certificate to keep and print. All you need is ear plugs to listen & learn on your computer.
