Library and Information Services Technology Classes & Workshops

All classes listed below are held in the LIS Professional Development Lab (unless noted) which is located in the second floor of South College in rooms 212/214. This classroom has PC computers. The MAC classes are usually held in the Alden room using MAC computer. See each class or workshops specific details.
Classes are open to students, faculty and support staff unless noted. Instructions to register in CLIQ here.
 

Jadu Web Page Training and Workshop

April 30th - 2pm till 4pm
May 12th -2pm till 4pm
June 10th - 2pm till 4pm
 
This training and workshop will be open to any one that needs to work on their departmental web pages using the Jadu Content Management System. The first hour of this workshop we will learn the basic editing functions of using Jadu which includes:
  • Create a new web page & edit an existing page
  • Add text - Learn how to copy & paste text correctly
  • Adding files & images to Jadu (scroll down for a class on editing images)
  • Finding URL's of web pages you created & files uploaded
  • Creating links
The second hour will be open to editing your web pages or practicing the functions taught. Too busy to stay for the 2nd hour? Only have a page or two to work on & just want to come for the 2nd hour? No problem, come & go to suit your needs.

Introduction to Dickinson's Network, Printers, Emails & Gateway

May 9th - 2pm till 4pm

(these are scheduled every 6-8 weeks)

This workshop is perfect for new employees or a refresher class for all employees.
In this workshop we will get into the Network on campus, find your department & personal folders. Outlook for reading your emails has many features & I will show you the 10 best tips. Logging into the Gateway, check where the Moodle, Net Files, CLIQ & Email will be covered too. Learn how to customize the tabs and content blocks to suit your needs in the Gateway. Emails can also be read by all employees using Outlook web access from anywhere using a browser & we will check it out in class. Passwords, Password Self-Serve, Quotas, Lynda Training Videos, Printers and more will also be covered. Bring any questions you might have!

Microsoft Office 2013 - Introduction, New Features & Give it a Try!

May 14th, May 19th & May 20th from 9am till 10am
Come to a workshop to experience the new Microsoft Office 2013 that the entire campus will be upgraded to on all PC Windows computers in May of 2014. Let's look at Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint together.

These workshops will be held in the Information Commons Classroom which is located in the lower level of the Library. Sign up for one in CLIQ within the Gateway.

Want to learn how programs work while sitting in your office computer with training video's? How about Microsoft Word or Excel, Adobe Acrobat Pro, iTunes or iPad to name a few. Mac or PC. Check out Lynda.com to preview free example videos. Click here for PC's Excel 2010 & here for Mac's Word 2011. The links in blue are free video's to view.

Dickinson College employees, if interested can get an account for 14 days at a time and view these videos! Once your account is created you can take turns using Lynda throughout the year. If you complete a section you can then get a personalize certificate to keep and print. All you need is ear plugs to listen & learn on your computer. Email helpdesk@dickinson.edu to get yours started today.
