MediaLink

Basic instructions
The MediaLink controller on top of the podium should be used to turn the projector on and off, select input sources, and set volume. Please DO NOT use the projector remote control for these functions. You can also blank the image with the "pic mute" button. If the image from the computer is cut off on the screen, press the "auto image" button and the projector should adjust it. Please note that in the event buttons are pressed with the projector off or the DVD/VCR mode is changed not using the MediaLink, the controller may "get out of sync" with the actual conditions. In most cases it is only necessary to press the appropriate button again on the MediaLink (even if it is already illuminated) to restore function. The exception is the selection of DVD or VCR mode on the Player. The indicator lights on the front of the DVD/VCR unit should agree with the DVD or VCR indicator on the MediaLink. In case it does not, you must change the mode on the player (either by using the VCR or DVD button on the player itself or the DVD/VCR select button near the top of the Sharp remote) to agree with the MediaLink.

Sound:
Sound for the devices controlled by the MediaLink is connected to the "video" input on the stereo receiver in the rack. this unit should be on and the "video" button should be depressed unless using one of the other devices. The Volume on the receiver should be set at the mid position and the volume regulated by the mediaLink volume control. See below for other sound functions and troubleshooting of sound issues.

To turn the projector On or OFF
Use the Display ON and OFF buttons on the MediaLink. The projector takes 30 seconds to warm up (The button will flash while the projector is warming up or cooling down. Please do not press other buttons during this time).

To view the built-in Mac
With the projector on, press the PC button on the MediaLink. Note that the volume is controlled both by the Mac volume setting and the volume on the MediaLink. For optimum widescreen image on the ceiling projector, the resolution of the iMac VGA output should be set to 1280x768 60 Hz using the display icon in the top toolbar.

To view a laptop
Connect the VGA cable located in the "well" on top of the podium to the laptop VGA jack. If using sound, connect the "mini" sound plug provided to the laptop headphone jack. With the projector ON, press the "LAPTOP" button on the MediaLink. You may need to press a function key on your laptop to enable the external monitor function (may be marked "LCD/CRT" or with a monitor icon).

To Play & View a DVD, Videotape, or CD:

This room has two VCRs. Both units will play media in most worldwide formats. In order to play SECAM video tapes in color, you must use the top unit. The bottom unit also plays video DVDs and audio CDs.
Most tapes will begin to play when inserted. You will need to press "stop" once the tape is inserted if you do not want this to happen. If you hit "play" after inserting a tape, it may begin to play at double speed without sound. If this happens, just press play again to return to normal speed.
To use the bottom [red dot] unit to play video tapes, DVDs or CDs:
With the projector on, press the "DVD" or VCR buttons as appropriate on the MediaLink. Use the Sharp remote with the red dot (or the controls on the MediaLink) to control playback. The switch at the bottom of the remote must be set to DVD or VHS to control the correct function. See illustration above. If a cable TV channel is showing, press the TV/VCR button on the MediaLink to eliminate it.
To use the top [yellow dot] unit to show a video tape:
With the projector on, press the "VCR2" button on the MediaLink. You must use the Sharp remote with the yellow dot to control playback rather than the controls on the MediaLink.

To View Campus Cable TV: With the projector on, press the VCR button on the MediaLink. You can change channels by using the channel ("CH") up and down buttons or by using the keypad on the Sharp Remote to enter the channel number.

About aspect ratio: the projector is a 16:9 (wide screen) format rather than the conventional 4:3 ratio. The iMac should display in wide screen format while most laptops and video should be be letter boxed (black bars on either side). If the image does not appear to be properly proportioned, use the "aspect" button on the MediaLink to cycle thru your other choices. You may need to press the "Auto Image" also once you have selected a different aspect ratio.

To use the other audio components:
For the turntable: Press "phono" on the Sony receiver.
For the cassette deck: Press "tape 1" on the Sony receiver.
To listen to the radio: Press "tuner" on the Sony Receiver.

Problems with the Sound?:
On the Sony receiver, make sure that the "A" button is in and the "B" button is out. Check to see if "Monitor" is selected on the receiver; if it is, press "Tape 2 Monitor" to turn it off.
