Job Descriptions - LIS Student Assistants
Category A wage ($7.15-$7.65)
Acquisitions/Periodicals: Responsible for purchasing books and other materials for the library. Responsible for ordering and receiving periodicals, newspapers and microforms. Work includes the opening, sorting, checking in, and shelving materials. Other duties may include searching the online catalog, filing, photocopying, un-boxing book shipments, helping with sending/receiving materials to and from the bindery. Must be competent with computer use. (weekdays 8am-4pm)
Archives/Special Collections: Responsible for processing college records & personal papers. Provides reference service to Archive patrons. Tasks include transcribing and proofreading documents, organizing papers and photographs and performing original research. Attention to detail required. (weekdays 8am-4pm & Monday and Wednesday 6pm-9pm)
Desk Attendant - Circulation: Responsible for checking items in and out of the library, provide other services to patrons by using the library software. Provide information regarding library policies. Manage various collections within the circulation area. Requires a student assistant who pays great attention to detail and exhibits exceptional customer service skills. (days, evenings & weekends)
Desk Attendant - Information Commons: Serves as computer consultant and service desk assistant. Provides basic library services to patrons using library management software. Expected to have an intermediate working knowledge of common computer applications and tasks supported in the infocommons. Familiarity with both Mac and Windows operating systems. Requires troubleshooting of equipment. Requires mandatory training attendance. (days, evenings & weekends)
Interlibrary Loan: Responsible for processing incoming and outgoing items using interlibrary loan management programs. Tasks include searching the online catalog, getting items from the shelves, scanning, data entry, photocopying, and preparing items for shipment. (weekdays 8am-8pm)
Shelving: Responsible for returning circulated books to the stacks. Student employees must pay great attention to detail and be self-motivated. Employees work independently and set their own schedules in consultation with access services department. (days, evenings & weekends)
Storage: Responsible for searching,
shelving and maintaining items located in the off campus storage facility. Must receive driver's certification through DPS.
Other duties include record keeping and contacting patrons.

Category B wage ($7.40-$7.90)
Media Center Assistant: Responsibilities include support of technology needs for patrons of the media center. Provide assistance to patrons using audio, video, graphics and web development applications. Manage and circulate media equipment. Assist staff on multimedia projects in Instructional & Media Services. Create tutorials on multimedia applications for trainings & user reference. Assistant will help maintain smart classroom equipment & other technical duties as assigned. Must be reliable and punctual and possess strong technical & problem solving skills. (days, evenings & weekends)
Helpdesk: Responsible for answering calls and providing assistance to users. Expected to document all details of the problem or request and troubleshoot to the best of their ability or log problem into tracking software and refer to a User Services liaison. Must have a pleasant phone etiquette at all times. Knowledge and proficiency with common computer applications and tasks supported on campus a must. Experience with both Mac and Windows operating systems. (weekdays 8am-5pm)
Research Services Assistant: Responsible for providing support to liaison librarians and associate director for research and instructional services. Assists with searching and formatting book lists for acquisitions decisions. Prepares materials used by librarians in library instruction, assists with library events and publicity,etc. Works with different librarians; must have web skills, pay attention to detail, and be able to work independently.(flexible)

Category D wage ($7.90-$8.40)
Library Supervisor: Responsibilities include: training and monthly meeting attendance. Expected to supervise student coverage of desks, provide reference services to patrons, conduct opening and closing procedures of library, oversee the general operation and security of the library building. Minimum qualifications: 1 year experience as a Waidner-Spahr Library employee, detailed knowledge of the Waidner-Spahr Library building, software programs supported in the library, and other services provided by the library. Must exhibit excellent decision making and problem solving skills. Required to work night and weekend hours. Also required to stay on campus during fall pause and through the last day of final exams during each semester. (days, evenings & weekends)
ResNet Services Annex Tech (RSA): Expectations include: Proficiency with Mac and Windows platforms, removal of specific viruses & malware, install antivirus software, verify computer is virus-free and report to LIS when necessary. Perform in-depth troubleshooting and diagnostics, determining the nature of a student's computer issue: browser hijack or redirect, malware, operating system corruption, or hardware problem/failure, and resolution of those problems when they fall within the RSA's scope of service. The successful RSA technician will be resourceful, curious, thorough, highly responsible, and willing to accept and meet new challenges. Regular meeting attendance required. Must be able to communicate to user what is being or has been done to the user’s computer. Must maintain accurate logs. Minimum qualification: high level of previous work experience or knowledge.
