PubLab Wireless Client Installation Procedure
for Windows Clients
Client Operating System Requirements
One of the following is required:
- Windows XP SP1 with wireless hotfix KB826942
- Windows XP SP2
- Windows 2000 SP3 with wireless hotfix Q313664
- Windows 2000 SP4
Wireless Card Requirements
- WPA Certified Wireless PCMCIA card
Procedure
Step 1
- Install Wireless card and drivers.
- Right Click on Wireless card connection icon on the system tray (lower right-hand corner).
- Select Open Network Connections.
Step 2
- Right click on wireless network card and select properties.

Step 3
- Select Wireless Networks tab.
- Note: If Wireless Networks tab does not appear, verify that the “Wireless Zero Configuration” service is running as a service. If not, start it up and set it to automatic.
Step 4
- Make sure the “Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings is checked”.
- Select add under preferred networks.

Step 5
- Enter PubLab in SSID.
- Select WPA for network authentication.
- Select TKIP for data encryption.
- Click on Authentication tab.

Step 6
- Select “Protected EAP (PEAP) for EAP type.
- Uncheck the box “Authenticate as computer when computer information is available”.
- Select properties under EAP type.

Step 7
- Uncheck “Validate server certificate”.
- Under Select Authentication Method – choose “Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)."
- Click on configure under select authentication method.

Step 8
- Uncheck “Automatically use my Windows name and password (and domain if any)."
- Then select OK on all open windows.

Step 9
- Click on pop-up balloon saying enter network credentials.

- Note: If the “Click here to select a certificate or other credentials for connection to the network PubLab ” information bubble does not appear it may mean that your wireless Ethernet card does not support WPA/TKIP encryption. Go back to Step 5 and instead of WPA and TKIP, choose Open and WEP. There is no need to alter any other settings, click OK to all windows and continue to step 10.

Step 10
- Enter NETWORK (not E-mail) Username and Password.
- Leave Domain blank.

Step 11
- Network Card should authenticate and get network address
