Public Access Wireless Client Installation Procedure for Windows Clients

Client Operating System Requirements

One of the following is required:

  • Windows XP SP1 with wireless hotfix KB826942
  • Windows XP SP2
  • Windows 2000 SP3 with wireless hotfix Q313664
  • Windows 2000 SP4

Wireless Card Requirements

  • WPA Certified Wireless PCMCIA card

Procedure

  1. Install Wireless card and drivers.
  2. Windows XP will detect a wireless connection.

  1. Click on the “Wireless Networks Detected” information bubble or the “Wireless Network Connection” icon on the system tray.
  2. Make sure “ Dickinson” appears and is highlighted - click “Connect”

  1. When warned that the connecting is unsecured, click “Connect Anyway”

  1. Windows XP will acquire a network address.

  1. When the status changes to “Connected”, close the window with the red “X” in the upper right-hand corner of the window. You are now connected and can access the internet.
