Institutional Systems: Current Projects

Please contact Jill Forrester for more information on any project listed below.

Institutional Computing System Evaluation and Selection

The Institutional System Advisory Group (ISAG) is currently in the process of evaluating and selecting an institutional computing system for Dickinson College. Currently, Dickinson uses the Colleague and Benefactor products from Datatel Corporation.

Because the current computing system is failing to meet the needs of many of the administrative offices on campus, the ISAG began evaluating various computing systems in July 2004. The process began with gathering system requirements from all administrative offices on campus. Two vendors were selected to prepare a demonstration for the administrative offices: Datatel and Sunguard SCT. The demonstrations took place in August 2004. Several follow-up demonstrations will be taking place in the beginning of September 2004.

For more information on Datatel Corporation, visit their web site at www.datatel.com.

For more information on Sunguard SCT, visit their web site at www.sunguardsct.com.

Paperless Admissions Office

The Dickinson College Admissions Office is in the process of implementing a document imaging and management system. The NolijWeb system will allow admissions counselors to electronically access student application files. The Admissions office is expecting to see improved efficiency of the operation staff by reducing the number of times an application file is pulled and then re-filed. The counseling staff will also have improved efficiency by having immediate access to a completed application file and eliminating the need for searching for a missing file.

The NolijWeb system is currently being configured and tested by members of the institutional systems and admissions staff. The expected completion date is October 2004.

For more information on NolijWeb, visit their web site at www.nolij.com.

Declining Balance now available on Library Copiers

For several years, Dickinson students have been requesting the use of their declining balance accounts for copy charges in the Library. Over this past summer, the Institutional Systems department along with the Library staff installed card readers on all new Library copiers. These card readers were then integrated with the Dining Services CBORD system. Students now have the option of using their declining balance accounts to pay for copy charges in the Library.
