| Sharp Multiregion (International) DVD/VCR | MediaLink |
Basic instructions
The MediaLink controller on top of the podium should be used
to turn the projector on and off, select input sources, and set volume. Please DO NOT use the projector remote control for these functions. You can also blank the image with the "pic mute" button. If the image from the computer is cut off on the screen, press the "auto image" button and the projector should adjust it. Please note that
in the event buttons are pressed with the projector
off
or the
DVD/VCR
mode
is changed
not using the MediaLink, the controller may "get out of sync"
with the actual conditions. In most cases it is only necessary
to press the appropriate button again on the MediaLink (even
if it is already illuminated) to restore function.
The exception is the selection of DVD or VCR mode on the Player.
The indicator lights on the front of the DVD/VCR unit should
agree with the DVD or VCR indicator on the MediaLink. In case
it does not, you must change the mode on the player (either by
using the VCR or DVD button on the player itself or the DVD/VCR
select button near the top of the Sharp remote) to agree with
the MediaLink.
To turn the projector On or OFF
Use the Display ON and OFF buttons on the MediaLink. The
projector takes 30 seconds to warm up (The button will flash
while the projector is warming up or cooling down. Please
do not press other buttons during this time).
To view the built-in Mac
With the projector on, press the MAC button on the MediaLink.
Note that the volume is controlled both by the Mac volume setting
and the volume on the MediaLink.
To view a laptop
Connect the VGA cable located on top of the instructor desk to the laptop VGA jack. If using
sound, connect the "mini" sound plug provided to
the laptop headphone jack. With the projector ON, press the
LAPTOP button on the MediaLink. You may need to press a function
key on your laptop to enable the external monitor function
(may be marked "LCD/CRT" or with a monitor icon).
To Play & View a DVD, Videotape, or CD:
With the projector on, press the DVD or VCR button on
the MediaLink. Insert your CD, DVD, or video tape into
the appropriate drawer or slot. Use the controls
on the right side of the MediaLink (or the Sharp remote) to control
playback
functions. If a cable TV channel is showing, press the
TV/VCR button on the MediaLink to eliminate it.
[NOTE:
This
unit
will
play
NTSC
(US format),
PAL,
and SECAM
media. However, French SECAM video tapes will only play in black-and-white.]
To View Campus Cable TV: With the projector on, press the VCR button on the MediaLink. You can change channels by using the channel ("CH") up and down buttons or by using the keypad on the Sharp Remote to enter the channel number.
About aspect ratio: the projector is a 16:9 (wide screen) format rather than the conventional 4:3 ratio. The iMac should display in wide screen format while most laptops and video should be be letterboxed (black bars on either side). If the image does not appear to be properly proportioned, use the "aspect" button on the MediaLink to cycle thru your other choices. You may need to press the "Auto Image" also once you have selected a different aspect ratio.
To control sound volume
Use the Volume control on the MediaLink. (The volume control
on the projector remote has no effect). An amplifier and equalizer are located at the end of the instructor desk. These should not usually require user attention. The amplifier should be turned on, the speaker button depressed and the two volume controls turned all the way up. You may adjust the tone with the equalizer, however for normal use the equalizer sliders and the volume knobs can remain centered.
Auxiliary video/audio inputs:
Video and audio inputs are provided on a plate near the light switches for the connection of microscope cameras or other video/audio devices.
You can connect to the "BNC" type connector for composite signals (an adapter to "RCA" style video connections is provided on this jack also - please replace after use of the "BNC" jack). Select this with the "aux video" button on the MediaLink. The S-Video jack can also be used, selected by the "S-Video" button on the MediaLink. The audio "RCA" jacks will work for either input.
