Background and Areas of Expertise:

Current Curriculum Vitae

My background is in classical studies and English literature, so I'm strongest in those fields. Some particular areas of interest are Latin poetry, Roman history, and sensational literature of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries (in both English and French).

I am also interested in humanities computing and how digital scholarly communication is changing not only how content is being shared but the nature of that content, itself. More specifically, I am involved with or am following developments in text mark-up, open research datasets, and linked data.

Digital Projects:

• Created a new "Databases" page for displaying the library's electronic resources that utilizes the social bookmarking site, delicious.com (with Ryan Burke and two other coworkers).


• Integration of interactive maps with texts for a seminar on Paris.


• Utilizing Mediawiki software to work collaboratively with faculty on creating research guides for students and, with Rafael Alvarado and Chris Francese, to create digital commentaries for research and pedagogy.


• Created a browser toolbar for the library.


• Notes for a talk I gave on digital scholarship.


• Assisted Prof. Ash Nichols with his Day in the Life of the Digital Humanities.

• finding special types of sources such as archival materials, images, and statistics

• showing you where to start
• helping with effective research strategies
• showing you how to trace the development of a topic
